Living large in Fatopia.

I would like to apologize to all of you for not keeping up with this blog, especially for the last week or so. I know I haven’t been the best at keeping it up from the beginning, but I’ve really been trying hard to post something every day for the last couple of months. Well, it looks like my posting will be hit and miss at best, or I may have to take a break for an unknown amount of time.

You see, the original fat chick is sick. I didn’t have medical insurance for about 2.5 years until Obamacare went through. Then Mr. Fat Chick and I could finally afford insurance again.

During the time I had no insurance, I started having stomach problems that I just had to ignore. There was a lot of pain and swelling on the right side of my stomach under and below my right ribs and my right side. I figured it was just my gallbladder and let it go. Mr. Fat. Chick had to have his removed several years ago, and although it was a simple procedure to pop that puppy out, it wasn’t so simple for him to get over it. And even though I was scared after watching him go through what he did, I manned up and went to the doctor like a big girl when I got insurance again.

Last Tuesday I saw a stomach doctor. He took my family medical history (which reads like a horror story) and examined me. I’m 42 and had never had any of the usual tests these kinds of doctors order. I went in knowing I’d probably have to have some of them. So, after talking to me and checking out my guy, he tells me I have to have an ultrasound of my adomen, an endocsopy, and a colonoscopy. He then asked me when I wanted to get started, to which I answered, “When d…” He turned to his nurse and says, “Schedule her for in the morning.”

I’m thinking, Okay, this guy likes to get things done quickly. I like that. What I didn’t know until I had the orders to take to the hospital with me the next morning was that he had ordered all three tests to be done in the same day! Now I don’t know how things are done where you’re from, but down here in Fatopia, doctors aren’t too keen on the idea of going down someone’s throat with a Polaroid camera duct taped to the end of a hose pipe on the same day they send the same contraption up the other end. This kind of set some warning bells off inside the fat chick’s head to say the least.

Anyway, they found some things going on with me. Since I don’t have gallstones, I have to go back to the hospital today and drink some stuff and let them see how my gallbladder likes it and what it does with it. That will tell them if it needs to come out or not. With the doctor I have, he might just kick me on upstairs and pop that puppy out today. I hope I’ll get a little more time to prepare for it than that, but I also want him to do what’s best for me, and I know he will, so I’m letting him run the show. After all, he’s the guy that went to school to learn all about this stuff, not me, so he should know what he’s doing.

The abdominal ultrasound showed some other things as well that my internist (or my regular doc as I call him) picked up on. I have a fatty liver, which you kind of have to expect when you’re dealing with someone who is as big as I am (I’m at least 550 pounds.), and my liver is also enlarged. Apparently, my spleen got jealous and decided not to miss out on the fun and grew more than a little bit to match it.

I have more tests in a few hours that will hopefully answer some of the questions we have about what’s going on and how it all started. See, I’m not a drinker. I had my bouts of heavy drinking in the past, but they didn’t last long enough to do any lasting damage like this. Hopefully, once I have some answers and have had time to wrap my head around them, I’ll get back to blogging as I should. Till then, I’ll do the best I can. I hope you check back from time to time to see how things are going around Fatopia.

Hope you feel better soon. Take care of yourself and not to worry about blog posts – we’ll still be here. Sending healing prayers.

    • Thank you, Mary Ann. I need all the prayers I can get right now.

I don’t want to put what the doctors think might be going on with me out there for the whole world to see till we know for sure. Besides, you never know, since I’m not taking on any new editing projects right now, I may actually end up with enough time to actually run this blog the way I should. We’ll just have to wait and see.

  2. Feel better and watch out for those crazy machines. I am praying that whatever it is is some simple and it won’t require trauma to your body.

    Peacefully and gracefully unfolding,

  3. […] week, I’m just happy to be here. The Fat Chick is sick as I wrote in another blog post. I could be mad at being sick, but instead, I feel thankful that the problems have been found and […]

  4. Just remember that “God turns all things for good for those who believe in Him”. This may be good that you are having this done now. I know it is hard to see right now. God loves you so much! You are His child! His Princess. Take care and i am praying for healing and peace as well as strength. Take it easy!

  5. Sorry i quoted that scripture wrong. It should be for those who love Him. Sorry may be a bit paraphrased too.

    • Thank you for your comments, Ascrapbookdiva. It’s perfectly alright that you mix things up and paraphrase. It just means that you take The Word into your heart and understand it to a point that you don’t have to grab your Bible and look up the scripture you want to talk about every single time you want to talk about it. I hope to get there one of these days. I stil have to pull my Bible out more often than not to look up the scripture I want to talk about every sinble time, but that’s part of why we have them, right?

Doc was sick and wasn’t in his office last week, so I couldn’t get the results of the lab work he ordered taken on me. Mr. FatChick had an appointment to see him that I have to reschedule today, so I’m hoping I might be able to find something out over the phone whie I have them on the line or when he goes in for his appointment.

I won’t lie, I’m a little more than nervous about these test results, but I just have to man up and hear them. But it’s all in God’s hands as it has been all along, and everything will happen according to His plan. I don’t have to know what His plan is. I just have to have faith that He has one and He knows what He’s doing. Luckily, faith is free so I can afford to have a lot of is, lol.
